BMW’s new WorldSBK test line-up of Bradley Smith and Sylvain Guintoli is the strongest of any manufacturer, and Christian Gonschor admits that limited test time will need to be used wisely.
During the official launch of the 2024 WorldSBK campaign, the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Technical Director revealed that development is taking place in all areas of the M 1000 RR. Although the 2024 machine is not entirely new, new parts are continually being introduced by the German manufacturer. The team is focusing on improving the engine, chassis, electronics, and aerodynamics to maximize the bike’s performance. The importance of electronics in racing has led them to individualize each rider’s base and make daily developments in this area. BMW’s strong line-up for 2024 includes Toprak Razgatlioglu, Michael Van Der Mark, Scott Redding, and Garrett Gerloff, with an additional test team comprising former MotoGP rider Smith and 2014 WorldSBK champion Guintoli. The test team’s main goal is to concentrate on the development and verification of new solutions, allowing the race teams to focus on the race weekends and individual rider solutions.
