When Marco Bezzecchi broke his collarbone in training last weekend, it was doubtful that he would even ride at the Indonesian MotoGP.
Despite his injury, VR46 Ducati star Bezzecchi managed to score 18 points with his third and fifth place finishes, surpassing his previous performance at the Motegi round. While he fell further behind in the championship standings, he gained ground on his competitors Jorge Martin and Brad Binder. Bezzecchi celebrated his success with a post-race beer, planning to party and rest the next day. He knew that the full race on Sunday would be a physically demanding challenge, especially with his recent shoulder surgery. Despite starting ninth on the grid and dropping to 13th on the first lap, Bezzecchi remained calm and focused on conserving his tires for a strong finish. He eventually overtook Binder on the final lap to secure fifth place. Though he experienced pain in various areas surrounding his collarbone, Bezzecchi was satisfied with his performance and praised the efforts of his team. Looking ahead, he hoped to continue competing at a high level and anticipated a strong comeback from his rivals, Bagnaia and Martin, in the upcoming races. Despite the limited time for recovery, Bezzecchi aimed to get his body in good shape for the next race in Phillip Island, which he believed would be less physically demanding than the previous one. Unfortunately, his teammate Luca Marini fell and retired from the race after contact with Brad Binder.
