Aleix Espargaro has escalated his war of words with Franco Morbidelli by claiming his rival has “crossed a sacred line”.
Espargaro was fined €10,000 and received a six-place grid penalty for slapping Morbidelli’s helmet during the race in Qatar. Morbidelli accused Espargaro of disrespect and brought up his family in his comments. Espargaro expressed anger over Morbidelli’s comments about his family, feeling that it crossed a line. Despite injuring his ankle in the sprint race and retiring early, Espargaro continued to defend his actions, stating that he never intended to hit Morbidelli’s helmet but wanted to push him away. However, he acknowledged that his reaction was wrong and that he would face backlash for his actions. The injury to Espargaro’s ankle could potentially affect his participation in the upcoming race in Valencia.
