Aleix Espargaro retired early from the Qatar MotoGP after serving his grid penalty.
The Aprilia rider was penalized with a six-place grid demotion and a €10,000 fine for slapping Franco Morbidelli on the helmet on Saturday. Despite suffering a fractured fibula and having his leg in plaster, Espargaro managed to race in the Qatar MotoGP. The wording of his penalty initially caused confusion as to whether it would carry over to future races, but it was clarified that the penalty was served for the Qatar race only. Espargaro started from 16th on the grid but retired early, ending a challenging weekend for him.
