Following the incident with George Russell in Barcelona, Max Verstappen is just one penalty point away from serving a one-race ban in Formula 1.
Reigning world champion Verstappen received a 10-second penalty and three penalty points for driving into Russell’s Mercedes during the Spanish Grand Prix.
Having accumulated 11 points in a 12-month period, Verstappen teeters on the edge of a ban and must avoid further penalties for the next two races.
Verstappen’s current penalty points will expire later this year, but he remains at risk of a race ban should he incur more points in the meantime.
Speculation surrounds who would replace Verstappen if he were to miss a race, with French rookie Isack Hadjar emerging as a standout candidate from the Racing Bulls team.
While Verstappen’s strong performances have been key for Red Bull this season, the promising Hadjar and experienced Lawson are potential contenders to step into his seat temporarily.
