Four-time world champion Max Verstappen caused a stir in the motorsport world by testing a Ferrari at the Nurburgring Norschleife last weekend. Haas team boss Ayao Komatsu firmly stated that his team’s drivers won’t be following Verstappen’s example. Verstappen, under the name “Franz Hermann,” tested a Ferrari 296 GT3 at the Nurburgring, attracting attention despite efforts to keep it low-key.
The Ferrari was from Emil Frey Racing, linked to Verstappen’s GT World Challenge team, sporting his livery. Rumors circulated that Verstappen broke lap records during the test, fueling intrigue. Komatsu emphasized that only Verstappen, as a multiple world champion, has the privilege in his contract to indulge in such activities.
Komatsu stressed that younger drivers like Oli Bearman and Esteban Ocon have much to prove and should focus solely on their F1 responsibilities. Engaging in additional races may pose risks, as Verstappen highlighted the importance of experience and safety. With the evolving nature of motor racing, F1 drivers today prioritize their professional obligations and no longer frequently compete outside of Formula 1.
