LEGO faced a tough task after the impressive Miami Grand Prix pre-race parade featuring drivable replicas of all 10 Formula 1 cars. The competitive spirit of the top drivers led to a slow-motion LEGO race with debris scattered at the Miami Autodromo.
Designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson took on the challenge of creating the podium trophies for the British Grand Prix, recreating the traditional British Grand Prix trophies, including the iconic RAC cup presented to the winner.
The winners’ trophy consisted of 2,717 LEGO bricks, weighed over 2kg, and took a team of seven builders over 210 hours to complete. Liltorp Johnson described the opportunity as akin to working on the FIFA World Cup trophy and a chance to inspire the next generation.
F1’s partnership with LEGO continues to produce innovative and authentic creations, appealing to a new generation of fans while honoring traditions like the design of the RAC Trophy. The collaboration with LEGO allows F1 to create memorable moments and push creative boundaries with traditional assets.
