McLaren team principal Andrea Stella believes Ferrari’s recent upgrades will add interesting competition to the Formula 1 championship battle, even though they missed out on pole position at the British Grand Prix. Despite strong performances by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc throughout the weekend, Max Verstappen claimed pole ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Stella sees Ferrari’s improvements as enough to potentially challenge at the front for the rest of the 2025 season.
He noted Ferrari’s strong performance in practice and qualifying, suggesting they could be the strongest team. Stella expressed interest in the tight competition at the front of the grid, indicating that Ferrari’s upgrades have been successful. If Ferrari continues to perform well, they might be McLaren’s main rival for the constructors’ title this season, similar to last year.
Stella praised Verstappen’s pole position at Silverstone, acknowledging his skill and reliability. He highlighted the importance of not underestimating Verstappen’s abilities, especially on high-speed circuits like Silverstone. Overall, the competition between Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull has added excitement to the championship battle, making it an intriguing season to watch.
