Revolutionizing the Future of Rally Racing: WRC 2027 Regulations Unveiled to WRC Commission

The World Rally Championship 2027 technical regulations are being finalized and will be presented to the FIA World Motor Sport Council next month, with key updates discussed by the WRC Commission.

Major changes in bodywork and defining car areas within the regulations were highlighted, along with reorganization related to engine control system and electronics.

These regulations aim to attract more manufacturers and teams with cars built under a cost cap of €345,000, offering Rally2 engines and spaceframe chassis for similar performance to current Rally1 cars.

Teams have urged for more details given the tight timeframe for the 2027 season, with final regulations not confirmed until the end of August, causing some friction among current manufacturers.

Proposed refinements to the regulations, including sustainable materials for bodywork, are in progress and will be presented for approval at the World Motor Sport Council meeting in Macau next month.

Chassis study and crash test simulations are underway, with real-world crash tests scheduled for July and August, as efforts continue to enhance regulations and safety measures for the upcoming WRC season.
