World Rally Championship drivers are expressing their concerns about the demanding itinerary of Rally Portugal, which included 14 hours behind the wheel on Friday. This year’s schedule adjustments included two additional stages on Friday, resulting in a total of 10 stages covering 683 kilometers, with 146km being competitive. Despite only two 20-minute remote services and short regroups, drivers and co-drivers spent a long day in their cars, sparking safety and fatigue issues. Rally leader Ott Tanak and other competitors have found the timetable tough, lacking adequate rest time between stages. WRC2 driver Gus Greensmith suggests that while long days are expected in the championship, improvements are needed to prioritize crew rest and well-being.
