Brad Pitt, known for his upcoming role as a Formula 1 driver in a summer blockbuster, recently got the chance to drive a real F1 car for the first time during a private McLaren test at the Circuit of the Americas.
McLaren confirmed the test and hinted at it on social media, where they shared an image of driver overalls with Pitt’s initials and a caption referencing a “Sonny day in Austin,” a nod to his character Sonny Hayes in the film.
Pitt traveled to Texas after the New York City premiere of the movie, with McLaren racer Lando Norris also present at the United States Grand Prix venue.
Interestingly, Pitt’s F1 outing was with McLaren, despite Mercedes heavily supporting the film’s production, modifying F2 cars used in the movie and featuring real-life sponsors on the fictional APX GP car.
Lewis Hamilton, involved in the film as a co-producer, had connections with Mercedes, but Pitt’s association with figures like Toto Wolff and George Russell appears to remain strong.
