Sébastien Ogier expressed surprise at leading Rally Italia Sardinia following a dramatic Friday that saw many of his World Rally Championship opponents struggle. Despite facing road cleaning effects, Ogier took a 2.1s lead over Adrien Fourmaux after completing six gravel stages. Hyundai’s Fourmaux briefly held the lead only to lose it due to a setup tweak, allowing Ogier to seize the moment and end the day unexpectedly in the lead. Adrien Fourmaux, despite the setback, remained positive about being in contention for his potential first WRC victory. Ott Tanak had a challenging day, struggling with suspension issues and finishing in third place behind Ogier and Fourmaux. Sami Pajari’s impressive performance landed him fourth overall, with Kalle Rovanperä also showing improved pace after a difficult morning.
