Mercedes encountered setbacks during the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix qualifying session, as George Russell’s car suffered a power loss after hitting a bump and was unable to restart. Russell had to retire, starting 14th on the grid, with low hopes for a strong performance in the race.
Russell expressed disappointment, believing he could have secured a top-four position if not for the technical issue, highlighting missed opportunities in qualifying.
The team faced challenges with car setup throughout the weekend, further compounded by Russell’s early exit from qualifying.
Meanwhile, Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s crash in Q1 also impacted Mercedes’ performance, leaving him in 15th place and prompting thoughts of strategy changes to make up for the setback.
Both drivers acknowledged the need to regroup and improve after consecutive challenging race weekends, aiming to reset and come back stronger in future races.
