High Stakes: Verstappen’s Future in Jeopardy Following Russell Showdown at F1 Spanish GP

Max Verstappen received three penalty points and a 10-second time penalty for intentionally colliding with George Russell’s Mercedes during the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.

This penalty has added up to a total of 11 points in the past 12 months, and if it reaches 12 points, he could face a race ban.

During the race, Verstappen had to pit for new tires under a safety car period, where he questioned the tire choice and later had to defend his position against Charles Leclerc and George Russell.

Despite his team’s request to let Russell pass, Verstappen initially refused, leading to the contact between the two cars at Turn 5.

The stewards’ review acknowledged the team’s order for Verstappen to give the position back to Russell, but also noted Verstappen’s dissatisfaction and the subsequent collision on track.

Overall, the incident resulted in a penalty for Verstappen and a downgrade in his final classification in the race.
