Endurance in Excellence: The Unsung Heroes of Formula 1 with the Most Grand Prix Starts sans Podium Finishes

Nico Hulkenberg finally broke his streak of not having a podium finish in Formula 1 by claiming third place at the 2025 British Grand Prix, his 239th grand prix start.

Hulkenberg’s victory was a result of well-timed pitstops amidst tricky weather conditions at Silverstone, marking a significant achievement in his 15-year F1 career.

Adrian Sutil currently holds the record for the most F1 starts without a podium, with 128 starts and a best finish of 4th at the 2009 Italian Grand Prix.

Despite Sutil’s consistent midfield performance, he never managed to secure a top-three finish in his seven-year F1 stint from 2007 to 2014.

Another driver with a notable distinction in this category is Pierluigi Martini, who competed in 119 grand prix without a podium, scoring his best finishes of 4th at the 1991 San Marino and Portuguese Grands Prix with Minardi.
