Red Bull had disappointing qualifying results at its home race in Spielberg, with drivers starting from positions P7 and P18.
Despite a late yellow flag incident caused by Pierre Gasly, Max Verstappen couldn’t secure a higher starting position and didn’t blame bad luck for the outcome.
The team struggled in the heat due to the RB21’s poor performance in hot conditions, especially over long runs where the rear tires overheat quickly.
Although changes were made to the car setup between Friday and Saturday, they were aimed at improving feel and pace rather than specific weather conditions.
Verstappen reported understeer in earlier sessions, and while changes were made to address this, the RB21 didn’t perform as expected in the warmer conditions during qualifying.
