Yuki Tsunoda is currently struggling to extract competitive lap times from the RB21, continuing a pattern of failure that has persisted since Daniel Ricciardo’s departure in 2018. Ricciardo’s departure was influenced by tensions with teammate Max Verstappen, leading to a series of unsuccessful replacements in the Red Bull team. Sergio Perez, the only driver who found some success, lasted four seasons in the team after coming from Red Bull’s young driver programme. Alex Albon, who moved from Toro Rosso to replace Pierre Gasly, pointed out the challenge of transitioning from a forgiving car to the tricky RB model. The current generation of ground-effect cars in F1 demands quick adaptation and limits testing opportunities for rookie drivers. Despite Tsunoda’s extensive simulator work and experience, he still faces challenges in finding consistency and performance on the track with the RB21.
