Carlos Sainz Jr has revealed that the idea of his father, Carlos Sainz Sr, running for FIA president was initially suggested to him by people in the paddock, and over time he started considering it seriously. Sainz Jr believes his father has the necessary credentials and experience for the role, given his extensive background in motorsport, including karting, single-seaters, Formula 1, rallying, and road safety campaigns. He emphasized that despite being biased as his son, he sees his father’s potential candidacy as a way of giving back to the sport that has given him so much. Sainz Jr expressed confidence that his father’s presidency would not create conflicts of interest with his own racing career, highlighting their family’s honesty in approaching the matter. He mentioned that Sainz Sr is currently evaluating the level of support he would receive before making a final decision on running for the FIA presidency.
