TOCA, the organiser of the British Touring Car Championship, will be closing a rules loophole before the next round at Croft during the summer break. The Hyundai team Excelr8 Motorsport faced scrutineering issues at Oulton Park due to questions about the mounting of the flat floor on their cars. Despite the ambiguity in the regulations, Excelr8’s cars were allowed to race unchanged on Sunday, with Tom Ingram achieving his second victory of the season. TOCA supremo Alan Gow clarified the situation, stating that the cars were never illegal but adjustments will be made to prevent similar issues in the future. The clarification is expected to come into effect by the Croft round on August 2-3, though it may not greatly impact the performance of the Hyundais known for their straight-line speed. Some in the paddock see the rules clarification as necessary, while others believe exploiting grey areas is part of motorsport, with reigning champion Jake Hill expressing concern over the competitive balance.
