McLaren’s Oscar Piastri expressed disappointment at not being able to fully utilize their tyre wear advantage in the Canadian Grand Prix due to running out of laps. Team boss Andrea Stella attributed their struggles to a lack of performance compared to their usual championship-winning form in Montreal.
Despite McLaren’s usual advantage in tire wear, they faced challenges with grip throughout the weekend. Piastri managed to qualify third but encountered difficulties in the race, being unable to capitalize on their strengths.
The circuit’s characteristics, featuring numerous chicanes and hairpins, did not favor McLaren’s strengths, particularly in terms of medium-speed performance. Stella highlighted the team’s efforts to improve the car’s setup, ultimately leading to a competitive showing in qualifying but facing limitations during the race.
Ultimately, McLaren’s performance in Montreal fell short of expectations, with Piastri acknowledging that they lacked the necessary advantage to make significant overtakes on track.
