The European Commission has approved Liberty Media’s acquisition of MotoGP promoter Dorna without conditions, one year after the initial announcement. This decision was made following an in-depth investigation, finding no competition concerns in the European Economic Area. Liberty Media’s expertise in media, sports, and entertainment is expected to enhance MotoGP’s popularity. The acquisition includes Liberty Media purchasing 86% of Dorna for around $4.2 billion, with Dorna’s top management retaining the remaining 14%. The delayed final decision from the European Commission was due to concerns regarding Liberty Media’s potential dominance in the European race broadcasting rights market. Despite this, the acquisition is now confirmed, and both parties will work together to expand MotoGP’s reach.
