Max Verstappen’s long-time F1 race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase is set to leave the team in 2028.
Max Verstappen has indicated that he has already identified a candidate to replace Gianpiero Lambiase as his race engineer when Lambiase departs for McLaren in 2028. This change will bring an end to Verstappen’s long-standing partnership with Lambiase. The role of race engineer is crucial, requiring a close relationship with the driver. Verstappen mentioned that he has potential replacements in mind and the transition will happen gradually within the team. While Lambiase moves to McLaren as chief racing officer, Red Bull’s Laurent Mekies insists he will take on a team principal role. Consequently, information sharing between Red Bull and Lambiase will gradually decrease as the transition progresses.
