There is a divide emerging over the stance of splitting the engine and electrical output of the current power unit.
Oscar Piastri wants F1 to shift to a 60/40 engine split soon due to dissatisfaction with the current power units and required techniques for performance extraction. There is talk of moving away from the current 50/50 split between combustion and electrical power this season. Some manufacturers oppose this change after significant investment in the current formula. However, Piastri believes such a change is necessary for the benefit of the sport’s spectacles. Max Verstappen supports a 60/40 split as the “bare minimum” to maintain his interest in F1. Ferrari and Audi have expressed cautious concerns about this potential modification. Piastri suggests that the sport should move towards a more combustion-heavy engine split in the future.
