The options would appear to be few and far between.
F1 has a contingency plan in place in case the final races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi are canceled, with CEO Stefano Domenicali hinting at possible alternatives. Despite being months away, F1 aims to maintain a full 24-race calendar rather than reducing it to 20 after cancellations in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The ongoing Iran-United States/Israel conflict adds uncertainty, prompting the need for potential backup options.
Domenicali highlighted Las Vegas as a possible venue, emphasizing that F1 will explore other alternatives if needed to ensure a complete season. North America, particularly Austin, Texas, and Miami, could be options due to favorable weather conditions. However, logistical challenges and scheduling conflicts with other events pose obstacles for both cities.
Mexico City, Portimão, and Istanbul are also being considered, although their proximity to previous races presents logistical hurdles. Kuala Lumpur stands out as a potential Far East alternative, but the last F1 event there was nine years ago. With limited options and unpredictable weather across many regions, F1 faces a complex decision-making process.
Given the circumstances, the upcoming races in November and December may need to adapt to unforeseen challenges, underscoring the need for flexibility and innovative solutions in the current F1 landscape.
