Under the Spotlight: Christian Horner’s Bold Celebration Following Red Bull’s Historic Victory

Twenty years ago today, David Coulthard delivered Red Bull Racing’s first-ever Formula 1 podium at the most glamorous venue on the calendar, and Christian Horner spectacularly paid the price.

The 2006 Monaco Grand Prix holds a special place in Red Bull’s history as David Coulthard secured a milestone result by finishing third. It marked Coulthard’s first podium since the 2003 Japanese Grand Prix after a lengthy drought. Jarno Trulli’s late hydraulic failure in the Toyota assisted Coulthard’s journey to the podium. The event included a touch of theatrics as Coulthard sported a Superman cape on the podium, part of a bet with team boss Christian Horner. Beyond the celebrations, the podium finish at the Monaco Grand Prix was significant for Red Bull Racing’s cultural identity and marked Ferrari’s first podium as a customer engine supplier in years. The race was won by Fernando Alonso, with Juan Pablo Montoya finishing second in what would be his final career podium for McLaren.
