It was a race that unravelled from the start for Oscar Piastri and McLaren.
In the Canadian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri received a 10-second penalty for a collision with Williams’ Alex Albon that resulted in Albon’s retirement.
Piastri and McLaren team-mate Lando Norris began the race on intermediate tires, which turned out to be a wrong and costly choice as the track conditions did not worsen as expected.
Exiting the first racing lap, Piastri pitted, rejoining in the mid-field where he later made contact with Albon at the hairpin.
Piastri tried to overtake Albon but overshot the corner, leading to contact with the side of Albon’s car.
This incident caused Albon to retire and Piastri to pit again for a new front wing.
The stewards penalized Piastri with a 10-second time penalty for the collision.
