Audi has endured mixed fortunes in the opening rounds of its venture into F1.
Audi team principal Mattia Binotto has acknowledged the noticeable gap in the squad’s power unit performance in comparison to the other teams in Formula 1. Despite a solid debut at the Australian Grand Prix, the team has been struggling to break into the top 10 consistently due to power unit issues, particularly during the Miami Grand Prix weekend. Binotto highlighted the expected challenges faced by a new engine manufacturer but expressed optimism in the team’s future development plans. Audi is currently ranked ninth in the constructors’ championship and aims to compete for titles by 2030, with Binotto emphasizing the need for continuous improvement and growth to close the gap with the leading competitors in the sport. The team is pleased with its progress so far but recognizes the extensive work required in areas such as personnel, team size, infrastructure, capabilities, and tools to bridge the performance gap and achieve long-term success in Formula 1.
