Kevin Estre retired early from the Nürburgring 24 Hours but paid homage to Max Verstappen, who came bitterly close to claiming victory.
Kevin Estre praised Max Verstappen’s outstanding performance at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, acknowledging him as an exceptional driver who demonstrated remarkable adaptability in challenging conditions, despite his unfortunate mechanical setback that cost him the victory.
Estre, a Porsche works driver and 2024 FIA WEC Hypercar champion, had to retire from the endurance race after crashing his Porsche 911 GT3 R early on while trying to catch up with the leaders.
Verstappen stood out during the race, especially with a remarkable night stint that saw him take the lead before a driveshaft failure dashed their chances of victory with just three hours and 20 minutes remaining.
Ultimately, the #80 Mercedes-AMG Team RAVENOL Winward Racing emerged victorious, overcoming their battle with Verstappen’s team to claim the win.
Despite the disappointment, Estre commended Verstappen and Team Verstappen Racing for their performance, recognizing the challenges of the Nürburgring as a tough race that selects its winners carefully.
