Liam Lawson was involved in a scary near-miss at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
Liam Lawson believes that Formula 1 will never be able to completely eliminate the risk of start-line crashes, despite the current measures in place to prevent incidents like his near-miss with Franco Colapinto. In Australia, Lawson stalled on the grid, prompting Colapinto to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The incident highlighted concerns raised by McLaren boss Andrea Stella prior to the season regarding new regulations. The introduction of a “low-power start detection system” in Miami was aimed at automatically boosting power for cars with low acceleration, but Lawson still maintains that risks will always be present in standing starts. Although some risks may be inevitable, Lawson emphasizes the importance of eliminating factors that are beyond a driver’s control to enhance safety in motorsport.
