Kimi Antonelli drove to a third consecutive pole position in Miami – but it didn’t come without its imperfections.
Kimi Antonelli expressed being “very stressed” after botching his second qualifying attempt in Miami, fearing he might lose his grid-leading position.
Despite the mistake, Antonelli still managed to secure pole position with a commanding opening lap that had him over three-tenths of a second ahead of the competition.
Only Max Verstappen was able to get within two-tenths of Antonelli, but the Italian’s first lap was enough for his third consecutive pole position.
Antonelli admitted to getting “a little bit too excited” on his last Q3 lap but was ultimately happy with his performance.
He aims to avoid a repeat of the sprint race start on Sunday when he dropped several positions from the front row, looking for a third straight grand prix win.
