Max Verstappen is known for being one of the most outspoken Formula 1 drivers, and he didn’t hold back when criticizing the Las Vegas Grand Prix. He referred to the opening ceremony as making drivers look like “clowns” and claimed that the event was more about show than the actual sport. Verstappen also voiced his dislike for Sprint weekends, describing the track as boring compared to Monaco, which he sees as the Champions League of racing. CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Steve Hill, responded to Verstappen’s comments by suggesting that he might be nervous. Fans were disappointed with the limited on-track action during practice sessions and were only offered vouchers for the official shop instead of an apology or refund. Verstappen criticized the event organizers for making money and expressed that he would be angry as a fan. He also took aim at Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, who defended the track’s issues, stating that they should have been prepared, especially for a new event.
