Max Verstappen and Lucas Auer received a three-place grid penalty at the Nordschleife, with the reason as to exactly why having been officially published by the stewards.
The Nordschleife stewards have clarified the reason behind Max Verstappen’s team receiving a three-place grid penalty for the upcoming four-hour race at the Nordschleife. Verstappen, along with Lucas Auer, is competing in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring Qualifiers this weekend, featuring two four-hour races over Saturday and Sunday. Tonight’s race marks Verstappen’s first experience driving at night on the challenging circuit. In the qualifying session, Auer’s contact with the #941 Porsche resulted in a spin, impacting their starting grid position. Despite initially qualifying sixth, the collision penalty has pushed the Verstappen Racing entry to ninth place for the race. The stewards’ decision was based on car #941’s account of staying on the racing line and Auer’s acknowledgment of misjudging the situation and his immediate apology to the affected driver. The penalty imposed was deemed suitable by the stewards for the incident.
