The F1 CEO’s Bold Stand: Challenging the Notion of Artificiality in Racing Regulations

F1 chief Stefano Domenicali has issued a strong defence of the underfire technical regulations.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali vigorously defended the technical regulations despite facing widespread criticism from fans and drivers. The new power units, with a 50-50 split in power output, have raised concerns after drivers struggled to complete qualifying laps without resorting to tactics like lift and coasting or ‘super-clipping’. Domenicali highlighted that the style of racing being criticised as “artificial” is not a new phenomenon, as similar tactics were employed during the turbo era in the 1980s. He believes that the current challenges are not necessarily negative but rather a part of the strategic aspect of racing. Despite ongoing talks to address the issues, Domenicali’s stance suggests that historical context is crucial in understanding and evaluating the current technical regulations in F1.
