Revival of Legendary F1 Circuit Steals the Spotlight in Crucial Test

One of F1’s most iconic circuits is to return for a special one-off test involving Mercedes and McLaren.

Next week, F1 will return to the Nurburgring for a two-day tyre test involving the Mercedes and McLaren teams. Pirelli conducts these on-track tests throughout the season to gather real-world data for tyre development, keeping the teams in the dark about the compounds being used. The teams are essentially rented by Pirelli for the test, with all run-plans directed by the tyre manufacturer. This marks F1’s first return to the Nurburgring since the 2020 Eifel Grand Prix held during the pandemic-disrupted 2020 season. The testing is scheduled for April 14th-15th, with Mercedes fielding George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, while McLaren’s lineup is yet to be confirmed. Additionally, Ferrari will be involved in a two-day wet tyre test at Fiorano during the April break, replacing the cancelled Bahrain test due to the Iran War outbreak.
