F1 2026 is not quite what Oscar Piastri expected, but he does not believe the situation at McLaren is a “complete disaster” either.
Oscar Piastri admitted that he didn’t expect such a significant change in the way F1 cars are driven before the new regulations took effect.
The revised rules have reshuffled the F1 hierarchy, causing Piastri’s McLaren team to lose its leading position at the start of the 2026 season.
Despite the team’s setbacks, Piastri doesn’t consider their situation a “complete disaster,” even though they faced challenges in the early races.
After two Did Not Starts and a second-place finish in the Japanese Grand Prix, Piastri reflected on the tough competition with Lando Norris and Max Verstappen in the drivers’ championship.
Although Piastri acknowledged the unexpected scale of changes, he remains optimistic that McLaren is still competitive and not in a dire state.
