Fernando Alonso has provided an update on his health following the Australian GP and risk of nerve damage.
Fernando Alonso provided an update on his physical condition after retiring from the Australian Grand Prix due to vibrations from the Honda power unit that risked permanent nerve damage in his fingers, according to Aston Martin boss Adrian Newey.
Newey mentioned that Alonso could only manage 25 laps, while his teammate Lance Stroll felt his maximum was 15.
Alonso initially retired but rejoined the race briefly before stopping for good on lap 21 out of 58, while Stroll completed 43 laps and finished last among the 17 cars over the line.
Alonso admitted that the vibrations issue, similar to Bahrain, had not been fully resolved, but he hoped for improvements in the chassis for the upcoming race in China.
Despite facing challenges, Alonso remained determined to help the team by trying different solutions to optimize their performance, describing the start and the first two laps in Australia as the most enjoyable part of the race.
