Kimi Antonelli breathes sigh of relief after Mercedes team member help
Kimi Antonelli received outside assistance from a Mercedes team member during qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix, but was not penalized by the stewards.
Despite a crash in final practice that wrecked his W17, Antonelli was able to participate in the qualifying session at Melbourne’s Albert Park.
During a red-flag period in Q1, Antonelli’s car was assisted by a pit crew member to avoid obstruction while waiting to enter the pit lane.
The stewards investigated the incident but decided not to penalize either the team or the driver.
The decision was based on the fact that the team member’s actions did not violate the rules regarding car maintenance during a red-flag period.
The stewards’ statement emphasized that the team member’s actions were aimed at preventing disruptions in the fast lane and were deemed appropriate in the circumstances.
