Aston Martin endured a disastrous opening practice session in Melbourne with just three laps to its name.
Aston Martin team principal Adrian Newey has revealed that the squad has used up half of its battery allocation during the Australian Grand Prix. This leaves them with only two batteries for the rest of the race weekend in Melbourne. The team is facing a shortage of mileage before the new season due to a vibration issue with the Honda power unit, which is affecting other car components and posing a risk to driver health. Aston Martin had limited track time during the first free practice session due to battery problems, with Lance Stroll completing only three laps as Fernando Alonso was unable to participate. Newey highlighted the scarcity of spare parts, emphasizing that another battery failure would force the driver out of the remainder of the weekend. Despite hoping to navigate the weekend successfully, the team is in a precarious situation given their dwindling battery supply. Flying in more batteries to Melbourne is not an option due to unavailability.
