Incoming Red Bull F1 team boss Laurent Mekies honored the departing Christian Horner in his first interview since taking on the new role. He acknowledged Horner’s 20-year reign that brought six constructors’ titles and eight drivers’ championships to the Milton Keynes squad. The decision to remove Horner immediately was influenced by a decline in performance, internal power struggles, and uncertainties regarding Max Verstappen’s future.
Mekies expressed his admiration for Horner at a filming day with the 2025 car, emphasizing the tremendous achievements under Horner’s leadership. He highlighted Horner’s impact on the team’s success and the role Christian played in bringing him back to the Red Bull family. Mekies plans to leverage the existing talent at Red Bull for the upcoming 2026 regulations and the team’s transition to a works manufacturer with Red Bull Powertrains engines.
Recognizing the incredible challenge ahead in a changing Formula 1 landscape, Mekies aims to support and empower the team’s exceptional individuals. He stressed the importance of maintaining the Red Bull ethos and energizing the team amidst the upcoming transformations. Mekies will spend the coming weeks meeting with team members, listening to their insights, and strategizing ways to enhance Red Bull’s Formula 1 operations.
