Incoming Red Bull F1 team boss Laurent Mekies expressed his respect for Christian Horner, acknowledging the ousted chief’s significant contributions in his inaugural interview in the new role. Mekies’ remarks came following the sudden dismissal of Horner after a 20-year tenure marked by numerous successes, including six constructors’ titles and eight drivers’ championships for Red Bull. Horner’s departure was reportedly influenced by a downturn in performance, internal management conflicts, and uncertainties surrounding star driver Max Verstappen’s future with the team. Mekies, who visited Silverstone for a 2025 car filming day, highlighted Horner’s remarkable achievements and the team’s evolution under his guidance, noting the surreal feeling of stepping into the role without his predecessor. As Mekies assumes leadership, he aims to leverage the existing talent within Red Bull Racing, emphasizing the significance of nurturing and empowering the team members for success amid upcoming regulatory changes and the transition to Red Bull Powertrains engines for 2026.
