Max Verstappen explained that the turnaround in car set-up from Friday to Saturday helped him secure pole position at the British Grand Prix, overcoming severe understeer issues during practice sessions on Friday. Red Bull made adjustments, shifting towards a lower downforce rear wing to improve balance in the RB21. Verstappen’s flawless performance in the final Q3 lap secured his fourth pole position of the 2025 season, narrowly beating Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
The qualifying session was extremely tight, with minimal gaps separating the top drivers like Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Lewis Hamilton from the pole position. Verstappen credited the team for addressing the understeer challenges and praised the engineering team for their hard work in improving the car’s performance and balance.
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner lauded Verstappen for his outstanding lap, highlighting the team’s collective effort in enhancing the car’s performance overnight. Despite initial comparisons to Verstappen’s previous pole laps, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko revealed that they expected to be at the front and had confidence in Verstappen’s ability to deliver another exceptional performance.
