Richard Lietz, a veteran GT Porsche driver at Le Mans, recently doubted his racing career but found success with a second consecutive LMGT3 class win last weekend, explaining that the new LMGT3 class could signal a changing of the guard in the World Endurance Championship.
Despite his initial doubts and age of 40, Lietz was surprised by the offer to drive for Manthey and eventually clinched his fifth Le Mans triumph, which was even more dominant with the help of his team.
Lietz emphasized the importance of team dynamics and performance, especially praising the consistency of his co-driver Ryan Hardwick and the Porsche’s tire management.
Having secured back-to-back Le Mans wins and leading the WEC LMGT3 points, Lietz acknowledged uncertainties about his future in racing, expressing his willingness to adapt to different roles in the sport.
Ultimately, Lietz remains grateful for the experience and success achieved at Le Mans, noting that, whether as a driver or a part of a team, the iconic race holds a special place in his heart.
