Max Verstappen is feeling optimistic for the Canadian Grand Prix weekend despite losing pace between FP1 and FP2, aiming to get the car back to its initial performance.
Although falling to ninth in the second practice session in Montreal, Verstappen believes the team is in a good position for the race and is determined to address the balance issues encountered.
With McLaren currently leading the championship and Red Bull in fourth place in the constructors’ standings, Verstappen’s focus is on battling Ferrari and Mercedes for a podium finish rather than competing with McLaren.
The tight competition among the top teams makes the upcoming race a challenge, with Verstappen acknowledging the improved performance of Mercedes compared to last year’s event at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
