Yuki Tsunoda openly expressed his confusion about his slow pace during the opening practice sessions at the Spanish Grand Prix, stating that he was unsure why he lacked speed despite smooth runs without apparent issues.
The Red Bull driver reported experiencing sliding at both axles and was notably slower than teammate Max Verstappen during qualifying simulations on soft tires.
Tsunoda acknowledged the challenge he faced, mentioning his difficulty in maintaining speed through specific turns compared to Verstappen, indicating a need for improvement in performance.
Although Tsunoda felt he made progress throughout FP1 and FP2, he remained perplexed by his slow pace and expressed uncertainty about the exact limitations hindering his performance.
In contrast, Verstappen described his Friday as “OK” and highlighted a relatively positive feeling compared to previous weekends, expressing a desire for further improvements in car setup to enhance comfort while driving.
Overall, both drivers recognized the room for enhancement and expressed determination to address their respective challenges ahead of the upcoming sessions.
