Ross Chastain had a strong performance at Charlotte Motor Speedway, finishing second in the NASCAR Truck race on Friday night and showing impressive speed in Coca-Cola 600 practice. Despite leading in long-run speed, he suffered a left-rear tire failure after 20 laps, resulting in a crash into the outside wall. Chastain explained that all the air suddenly went out of the tire, causing the incident. Kyle Busch, who had just announced a contract extension, had a steering issue and was unable to run any laps during the practice session. Carson Hocevar, driving for Spire Motorsport, led in single-lap speeds, followed by Ty Gibbs and AJ Allmendinger in their respective cars.
