Yuki Tsunoda will start from the pitlane in F1’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix after Red Bull built up a spare chassis due to his qualifying accident at Imola. Tsunoda lost control over his RB21 at the fast Villeneuve chicane, leading to heavy contact with the inside wall and a barrel roll. Despite being uninjured, the extent of the damage required a spare chassis and a fresh Honda power unit, exceeding his season limit for some components. The FIA’s technical delegate confirmed that Tsunoda’s car would have to start from the pitlane according to regulations. Tsunoda expressed self-criticism for the unnecessary accident, acknowledging the changes made to the car and his lack of understanding while pushing hard in the early stages.
