High Drama on the Track: Kyle Larson’s Shocking Crash in Indy 500 Practice

Friday’s practice session was intense with close calls and heart-stopping moments as drivers grappled with high winds and added weight in the rear due to hybrid power units. Kyffin Simpson crashed heavily at Turn 4, going airborne in the first hour of the session. Teams and drivers proceeded cautiously, with some waiting for hours before hitting the track.

Kyle Larson and the No. 17 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet opted to delay their first mock qualifying run until just 90 minutes remained. Unfortunately, Larson lost control in Turn 3, spinning and slamming into the outside wall nose-first before spinning again and hitting the Turn 4 wall.

The incident marked Larson’s second crash in recent weeks, adding pressure with only one more practice session before qualifying. Larson remains optimistic, citing the need for minor adjustments and confidence in the team’s speed potential.

Reflecting on the mishap, Larson admitted to being caught off-guard by the track conditions but expressed faith in quick recovery. Looking ahead to Saturday, Larson plans to add extra downforce for a cleaner run and reiterated his lack of concern over the incident.
