Anthony Hamilton Makes Racing History as FIA Young Driver Role Confirmed

Lewis Hamilton’s father Anthony is set to take on an official role at the FIA to assist with its young driver programme, a role that will be confirmed next month at the FIA’s conference in Macau. Hamilton Sr has been working in an advisory capacity for the past 18 months, impressing FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who aims to facilitate young drivers’ career pathways within the sport. This development does not affect Lewis Hamilton’s stance on Ben Sulayem’s governance, as he and other drivers have previously clashed with the FIA President on various matters. Ben Sulayem has recently made revisions to the FIA’s penalties for swearing on the team radio, garnering mixed reactions from drivers like Hamilton and George Russell. As Ben Sulayem faces re-election later this year, former F1 driver Carlos Sainz Sr is reportedly considering running for the presidency, with no official challenger declared yet. The potential changes at the FIA and within the governing body have elicited responses from drivers, signaling a desire for transparency and improvements in the sport.
