Argentina’s Franco Colapinto has joined the Formula 1 grid for the second time in two seasons, this time replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams due to impressive performance during a wet Silverstone FP1 session and simulator work, catching the eye of team boss James Vowles.
Drafted in by Alpine as a reserve driver, Colapinto now has five races to prove himself, with an evaluation scheduled between the Austria and Silverstone rounds to determine his involvement for the remainder of the 2025 season.
To secure his spot at Alpine, Colapinto must deliver on track as the team desperately needs points, with the midfield battle tighter than ever and Pierre Gasly in need of support to climb up from ninth place in the constructors’ table.
Colapinto should build on his impressive 2024 debut performances with Williams, aiming to replicate his heroics and contribute to Alpine’s success in a challenging midfield environment where every detail matters in scoring points.
Learning from Doohan’s rookie mistakes and focusing on staying competitive race by race will be crucial for Colapinto as he aims to establish himself at Alpine and make the most of this unexpected opportunity in Formula 1.
