“MotoGP races take place in various countries such as Spain, Japan, America, Germany, and more, at both new and historic tracks around the world.
One notable location on the MotoGP calendar is Le Mans, France, famous for hosting the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race where legendary moments like Ford beating Ferrari and Mark Webber’s airborne incident occurred.
However, MotoGP races at Le Mans are held on the Bugatti Circuit, a 2.6-mile purpose-built track, not the longer Circuit de la Sarthe, mainly due to safety concerns and the phasing out of street circuits in favor of safer, purpose-built tracks.
The Bugatti Circuit was constructed in 1965 to provide a permanent racing facility in Le Mans and has undergone several safety upgrades over the years to meet MotoGP standards.
While the history of motorcycle racing at Le Mans dates back to 1969, the Bugatti Circuit has been the venue for French motorcycle racing since 2000, solidifying its place on the MotoGP calendar as a safe and iconic track.”
